Christmas Porch Decorating with Nature

Using natural elements for Christmas decorating is my very favorite way to decorate each year.

It is a simple and inexpensive way to decorate while making s spot look beautiful.

Every year, I like to incorporate a new evergreen of some kind in my garden so that I can use its trimmings at Christmas.

Christmas porch decorating basket
I found these baskets last summer on Amazon. They are pretty, have a liner, and have held up very well.

We have boxwood, juniper, holly, various pines, and this year added a few green giant arborvitaes.

A plain wreath is easily adorned with hydrangeas, pinecones, cedar, and large rosehips, finished with a natural brown plaid bow.

Not only that, but I love to wander around the garden clipping anything that is left over from summer. I used tree peony seed pods, pussy willow, hydrangeas, rosehips, artemesia, and winterberry this year.

I also have a bin of dried naturals saved from year to year. Some of those include eucalyptus, pinecones, silver dollar money plant, tallow berries, dried oranges, and other fruits all store very well.

Create something new!

Normally, I purchase fresh green wreaths for decorating my porch and windows and then embellish them with extras. This year it seemed like Christmas greenery had gone up in price and decided on something else.

Front porch decorating pillows

Missing my front window boxes, I had an idea of making window sill swags the length of my windows. I was really pleased. Sometimes you never know…but these turned out beautiful! They were simple, inexpensive, and easy to hang! I will share how I made them in the next few days!

The only purchase I had to make was for the ribbon. I chose a brown plaid for a traditional natural look.

Always handmades and vintage

Remember those vintage wooden boxes that my neighbor was throwing away? They worked perfectly here with this primitive tree. I added winterberry branches for a less faux and more wild natural look and topped it with an oversized grapevine wreath.

Most years my mom makes my sister and me a Christmas pillow. I love how happy they look on my swing. I have quite a few but try to stay with my color scheme of the year ~ it is so hard to pick!

Garden Whimsy

One more thing… whimsy! Pots, statuary, urns, fence pieces… whatever you’ve got, use it. They add a touch of whimsy which is what Christmas decorating is all about!

I’ll be sharing more of our Christmas decor inside the house in the coming days. Thank you so much for visiting me today!

Sharing a little look inside my studio shed today Sharing a little look inside my studio shed today since I kind of cleaned it up yesterday and now with starting a new project it will be a mess again very soon! I don’t know about you, but I love looking inside other people’s homes and work spaces (and garden too!) They call that being “nebby” in Pittsburgh. Hope you enjoy. Have a beautiful and blessed day friends 💙

P. S. That’s Juney on the bed and Lilikoi (aka Lily) and Alfie in the birdcage. I couldn’t think of their names when I was talking haha!

You can bet that I’ll be making Irish Soda bread You can bet that I’ll be making Irish Soda bread this week. I look forward to it every year. This is my go to recipe, which has vegan options (for my girl @lydia_tavoletti 💚). Seriously no one would guess that there are no eggs or dairy in it. It’s delightful and easy! Grab the recipe on my blog (link in bio and below)

Why I force myself to plant bulbs in the fall🌷🌷🌷
It is cooler today, but all the signs are showing that spring is on its way! #earlyspringflowers #cottagegarden #catsinthegarden
Slowly spring is coming into our living room with Slowly spring is coming into our living room with lots of plants, primroses and forced forsythia. I made a rabbit pillow for the sofa and am just delighted with how he turned out!

On another note, this weeks shop update is being postponed for next Tuesday. It’s been a week of all the things, drs appointments, car problems, Dino’s sick… just enough blah for me not to have time to finish. Look for lots of bunnies next week. I may even add a few of these rabbit pillows in different colors…what do you think?
